Stephanie Mcmahon Opens Up About Struggles Of Leaving Wwe Executive Job

Stephanie McMahon struggled with her self worth after leaving her WWE executive role in 2023.

It’s been more than three years now since McMahon held an executive position with WWE. She first stepped away in 2022 to focus on her family but soon returned after her father’s “retirement.” Stephanie served as co-CEO alongside Nick Khan before departing WWE in January 2023 after Vince McMahon forced himself back into power (with Vince then ultimately resigning in January 2024 after Janel Grant’s lawsuit was filed).

Stephanie does host the “What’s Your Story?” podcast for WWE, which had Charlotte Flair on as the guest this week. The episode included McMahon opening up about how she struggled with her identity after it had become so attached to her WWE work. She’ll always love WWE and is happy to remain around the company, but the decision to leave has allowed Stephanie more time to enjoy life and spend time with her family.

“I struggled a lot with coming home because — I mean, I’m still doing a lot of stuff, obviously. But I was an executive, a working executive. And now it’s like, am I less of someone now because I’m not? And do I have to still prove it — to who? To myself? No, I don’t,” Stephanie said. “And it’s okay for me to enjoy my life and still, of course, work hard and give back. And I get to pour my love into my family and be there. And that’s what matters the most to me, is what I’ve realized. And of course, I love the business, always will. I pour my love into the business no matter what, and all the people in it.”

Stephanie was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame earlier this year, and her husband Paul “Triple H” Levesque (WWE’s Chief Content Officer) and Khan (now WWE President) have both left the door open for Stephanie to return in the future if she wants.

Married for more than two decades now, Stephanie and Levesque have three daughters together. Their daughter Vaughn appeared on camera at SummerSlam last month and sang “God Bless America.”
