Swyft Fiber acquires portions of Fastwyre’s fiber network in three southern states

Swyft Fiber, a Louisiana-based provider, has purchased Fastwyre Broadband’s fiber network serving customers in parts of Louisiana, Texas, and Alabama, the company announced this week. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed, and the announcement did not specify a closing date.

The acquired systems made up Fastwyre’s South Central fiber-to-the-home network, aligning with Swyft Fiber’s existing broadband offerings.

Swyft Fiber said it would integrate and upgrade the Fastwyre infrastructure over time and told affected customers that they could expect stronger network performance, improved reliability, and, in some cases, faster speeds. The company did not name the specific communities changing hands, provide a timeline for the upgrades, or say how many subscribers were involved.

According to the announcement, current customers will not experience service interruptions during the transition and will keep the same level of service they have today. Local staffing, customer service, and technical support will stay in place, and the company said subscribers would receive information about their accounts and any changes in the coming weeks.

Swyft Fiber CEO Jason Hunt cast the purchase of Fastwyre assets as a way to reach additional communities. The deal, he said, would let the company “extend that commitment to more communities while continuing to invest in the performance and resilience of our network.” 

The Fastwyre systems in Texas and Alabama sit outside the states Swyft Fiber currently services, making the purchase an expansion into new territory.

The transaction is the latest example of Fastwyre parceling out its markets to regional operators. In May, Great Plains Communications agreed to acquire Fastwyre’s Nebraska business — which spanned more than two dozen communities in that state — and told those subscribers to expect future upgrades and access to local call centers.
