Texas A&m Is Widely Projected As An 8-seed In The Ncaa Tournament
Texas A&M's 7-1 start in SEC play was highly unexpected, as first-year head coach Bucky McMillan built his 2025-2026 roster completely from the transfer portal and was the last Power Five head coach hired back in late April. Currently sitting at 17-6 and 7-3 in conference play, the Aggies endured just their second losing streak this season after falling to Alabama on the road and Florida at home.
Saturday's loss was the by-product of poor shooting, as the Aggies shot 17% from the field in the first half, while the Gators broke the A&M press throughout the game, allowing too many easy layups and dunks while McMillan's offense failed to shoot its way back from beyond the arc. None of this was surprising given the size difference in the front court, which had been widely deemed as a "bad matchup" from the start.
Looking to get back on track, Texas A&M will host Missouri on Wednesday night, needing to defeat the Tigers not just to protect home court, but with seven conference wins thus far, finishing the year with ten or eleven conference victories is the only way the Aggies will earn an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament.
On Tuesday, ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi released his updated bracket, dropping Texas A&M to the 8-seed line. On Bracket Matrix, 71 updated brackets have the Aggies safely in the tournament at this time, including 38 placing Texas A&M as an 8-seed and 28 as a 9-seed.
This is a great sign heading into the final stretch of the regular season, knowing that KenPom has predicted A&M to win six of its final eight games. Missouri's size will be a challenge, but the Aggies have continued to improve on the boards, grabbing 19 offensive rebounds against Florida, but will need to perform much better on offense, including better shot selection, to avoid playing from behind.
