Texas A&m Remains On The Bubble In Espn's Bracketology Update
Texas A&M (20-10, 10-7 SEC) took care of business on Tuesday night after defeating Kentucky 96-85 behind an elite shooting performance combined with a balanced scoring effort, while sophomore guard Rubén Dominguez rebounded with 17 points and five threes after struggling for most of SEC play from the field.
Hitting the 20-win mark during coach Bucky McMillan's first season at the helm is nothing short of impressive, and with five Quad 1 wins and zero "bad" Quad 3 & 4 losses, the Aggies are in great position to earn at at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament, which would be a significant acheivment after McMillan's veteran squad was picked to finish 13th in the SEC and win less that five conference games.
Even after posting a disappointing 2-6 record to end last month, the Aggies immediately responded against a Kentucky team that blew out Vanderbilt by 14-points last Saturday, coming back from a 30-18 first-half deficit to go on an incredible 44-11 run, and shot nearly 50% from the field, and 46% from beyond the arc.
Texas A&M stayed pat at No. 43 in the NET rankings and only moved a couple of spots while staying in ESPN Bracketologist Joe Lunardi's "Last Four Byes" before facing LSU on the road to finish the regular season. However, the Aggies' home loss to Texas last weekend was offset by the Longhorns' 105-85 road loss to Arkansas, resulting in a somewhat drastic fall back to the Last Four Byes and now sitting below Texas A&M.
This is great news for the Aggies, who are likely a win away from LSU and entering the SEC Tournament field relaxed, focused only on improving their seed line. According to BarTorvik, Texas A&M has nearly a 94% chance of making the NCAA Tournament after defeating Kentucky.
