The Decade That Changed Space Exploration Forever
The 1980s were one of the wildest and most ambitious decades in space exploration.
This was the era when astronauts stopped simply visiting space… and began working, repairing, and living there. Space shuttles flew like spaceplanes, astronauts used jetpacks to drift freely above Earth, satellites were captured and fixed in orbit, and robotic probes survived the most hostile worlds in the Solar System.
From the first untethered spacewalk to the rise of space stations, the Voyager missions, Venus landers, and the early ideas that eventually led to international cooperation in orbit, this was a time when science fiction suddenly became reality.
