South Korean investment firm The Venture has become the majority shareholder of Chicken Plus’ Vietnam business, as part of its project fund for overseas investment.

Chicken Plus is a fried chicken brand from South Korea, operating under a franchise model. The chain opened its first store in 2016 and has expanded to more than 500 locations in its home market.

The brand entered Vietnam in early 2019 and currently operates over 100 stores nationwide.

According to Korean online newspaper VentureSquare, The Venture acquired the majority stake in Chicken Plus Vietnam through a project fund for overseas investment, which is also participated by a major domestic chicken franchise company as a strategic investor.

The investment firm plans to leverage its established local store network and operational infrastructure to increase Chicken Plus Vietnam storecount to 270 within four years.

In addition, the company plans to establish its own chicken farm and internalise the production, distribution, and sales to ensure cost competitiveness and quality control.

There will be no changes to the existing management or personnel following the deal.

Daehyun Kim, a partner at The Ventures who oversees Vietnam investments, told VentureSquare that the acquisition aims to increase asset value by combining the Korean restaurant system with local infrastructure.

The Ventures has been investing in logistics data solutions and e-commerce startups, primarily in Vietnam and Malaysia. The latest deal marks its expansion into the restaurant sector.
