Thrown Into A Digital Marketing Role Overnight - I’d Love Your Tips

Card image cap

This is a sensitive and pressured situation so please be kind.

Basically, I’ve been working for a small NFP for some time in a community engagement/social media/storytelling capacity. Solo - I report to the Director.

Due to ~reasons~, some of our key projects for vulnerable people, have lost funding in recent months.

One way that the business is trying to stay afloat is by piloting a fee-for-service project, that will help us fund the other key projects. (Please no advice on this plan, it has nothing to do with me).

So, we urgently need clients and the scope of my role has changed almost overnight to needing to market a paid (albeit very affordable for our sector) service.

We have a smallish budget (approx $1.5k a month) so no capacity for a digital marketing agency or similar.

But, I learn quickly and I’m keen to grow. I think Google Ads is our best bet for this service (we’re slowly growing our email list and we have good social media engagement but this particular audience is high intent and less engaged in our NFP social media content).

About 75% of the traffic to this service’s landing page come from direct/organic searches. I’ve already optimised our web page for SEO and that’s helping drive traffic. Our blog content is starting to show up in AI search results.

Basically, the pressure is on to become a decent entry-level digital marketer and I need to make this a success in a short window of time.

I’m not expecting to have YOUR level of expertise or skill in that time, just to learn enough to start generating enquiries while I upskill more deeply. I can’t tell you how important it is to me that we keep being able to fund our NFP programs.

To break even, we need about 30 enquiries a month.

Any words of advice, best recommended programs to learn the basics of Google Ads and any extra tips that can help me make the best of this tough situation?
