Tokyo Game Show 2026 Cancels Final Day Due To Oncoming Typhoon

Tokyo Game Show is celebrating its 30th anniversary this year, and to mark the occasion, it was set to be held over five days, with a third public day on Monday. That was until the weather had other ideas. The PR office announced to the media today that, due to an approaching typhoon set to hit the Tokyo region on Monday, the event will now end on Sunday. According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, via The Asahi Shimbun , Typhoon No. 25 (also known as Typhoon Dujuan) will hit the Tokyo region in the afternoon of Monday, September 21, with a risk of heavy rains in the 24 hours before it reaches the metro area. Rains include 80 mm in the Kanto region by 6 am on Sunday and another 200 mm by Monday at 6 am. The typhoon is currently slowing off of Japan’s southern coast and gaining strength. Tokyo Game Show’s press release states that they are “the safety of all attendees, exhibitors, staff, and other parties involved as our highest priority, [and thus] we have decided to cancel the event for the entire day on September 21.” Monday ticket sales can be refunded via the ticket platform where the tickets were purchased. This year’s Tokyo Game Show was the largest on record, with 1,138 exhibitors from 53 countries and regions, with 3,999 booths across Makuhari Messe.
