**Disclaimer**

Is this plugin open source? Yes

Is this plugin completely free? No. Free for one folder; a $5 Pro version is coming (not on sale yet).

Is this plugin vibe-coded beyond the author’s ability to comprehend how it works? No

I wanted to keep my business records in the same vault as everything else, but I didn’t want them sitting on disk in plain text. The options I found either covered single notes, skipped attachments, or left a readable copy behind. So I built Vault Locker.

**What it does:** you pick a folder and set a password. When the folder is locked, every file in it is encrypted on disk: notes, PDFs, images, all of it. Unlock it with the password and you’re back to normal Obsidian.

- AES-256-GCM, a separate key for each folder, every file encrypted on its own

- A recovery key at setup, in case you forget the password

- Works on Mac, Windows, iPhone, iPad and Android

- Your notes, passwords and keys never leave your device. Free never touches the network. No account, no tracking.

- Open source (GPL-3.0), so you can read every line

**It’s free for one folder,** with full-strength encryption. A $5 Pro version is coming for unlimited folders, the whole vault, auto-lock and hidden file names. It isn’t on sale yet.

**Be clear on the limits before you trust it with real files.** While a folder is unlocked, its files are plain on disk, because that’s how Obsidian’s editor reads them. Copies made before you locked (backups, sync history) aren’t erased. And if you lose the password and the recovery key, the files are gone. There’s no back door. The README spells all of this out.

Install: Settings → Community plugins → Browse → search **Vault Locker**.
