Why Are We Blindly Trusting Ai Companies With Our Data?

Card image cap

Lately I’ve been seeing a story floating around that really made me pause.

Apparently, there were claims that the US government asked Anthropic (the company behind Claude) for user data and they pushed back, while OpenAI was more cooperative.

Now — I don’t know how accurate this is. It could be misinterpreted, exaggerated, or completely false.

But that’s not even the main point.

The real question is:

Why are we so comfortable trusting these companies with our data in the first place?

We use tools like ChatGPT for everything — coding, personal problems, business ideas — sometimes things we wouldn’t even tell people we know.

And yet:

• Most of us don’t read privacy policies • We don’t know how our data is stored or used • We just assume it’s “fine”

Even if that story isn’t true, it highlights a bigger issue —

we’re putting a lot of trust into systems we don’t fully understand.

So I’m curious:

Do you actually trust AI companies with your data?

Or are we just trading privacy for convenience without thinking?
