Why Hire An Apprentice?
I’m 17, working as a marketing apprentice in Taunton, and I see this from both sides.
Businesses say they want loyal staff, people they can trust, and fresh ideas. But then they hire someone experienced who might not stay long term.
An apprentice is different.
You bring someone in early and train them your way. No bad habits, no “this is how we did it before”. Just someone learning your business properly from day one.
From what I’ve seen, apprentices bring energy as well. We are learning every day, picking things up quickly, and actually want to prove ourselves.
There is also the cost side. Hiring an apprentice is usually more affordable than experienced staff, especially with government support. But you are still building real skills into your business.
And the biggest one is retention.
If you invest in an apprentice, give them proper responsibility and help them grow, they are much more likely to stay with you long term.
For me, apprenticeships are not cheap labour. They are a smart way to build a strong team for the future.
