105-year-old Mascot Cheers On Local Team
A 105-year-old football fan was a matchday mascot for her local team.
Joan Geary, a resident at Cosham Court Nursing Home, attended Portsmouth Football Club's game against Derby County on 16 March as part of a surprise organised by Pompey in the Community.
The lifelong supporter met players, received a signed football and was presented with a personalised T-shirt reading "Nan".
Staff said the experience left the great-grandmother "beaming with pride and joy".
Joan, who was previously treated to a visit to the ground for her birthday, was once again given the chance to see her team up close.
As part of the day, she was also presented with a bouquet of flowers and had the opportunity to meet players.
Although the result did not go Portsmouth's way - losing 0-1 - staff said the occasion itself had a lasting impact.
Charisma Williams, home manager at Cosham Court said: "Since the visit, Joan has been beaming with pride and joy and she hasn't stopped talking about it," she said.
"Being such a loyal Pompey supporter, the evening meant the world to her.
"Moments like this bring so much happiness to our residents and create lasting memories."
