The 2000s were an interesting time for reality shows. One of them was VH1’s dating series, “Pickup Artist” where eight guys that had not had great success in relationships would be tutored in the art of being a “pickup artist” by someone who was said to be the “ultimate pick-up artist who had the secret to wooing women”. The winner of that show was Alvaro Orlando who took that experience and evolved into a successful dating and relationship coach. He is also passionate about acting and filmmaking which makes his new feature film, “The Pickup Artist” the perfect match.

GETTING TO KNOW ALVARO ORLANDO

With the “The Pickup Artist” currently making its way through film festivals. These including the Golden State Film Festival, The Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival. Other festival showings are also coming up soon. I had the privilege to chat with Alvaro about his film, his time on the reality show, and of course relationships. He shared with me what makes this film so important to him as not only a study in how to kick start a relationship, but a call to Hollywood signaling Orlando’s passion for filmmaking.

He also shares with me one of the moments that still might haunt him to this day from his time on “Pickup Artist”. As well as how he believes dating has gotten better and worse in our modern day. Also as a special treat he gives us one piece of advice for those looking for their future significant other. It was a fantastic conversation that you can check out below!

ABOUT “THE PICKUP ARTIST”

After a devastating breakup, a hopeless romantic signs up for a pick-up artist bootcamp. Only to realize the dating advice meant to “fix” him may be the very thing keeping him from real love. The film is fast, funny, and emotionally honest. The Pickup Artist skewers modern dating rules while celebrating vulnerability, growth, and the courage to show up authentically.
