This Advanced (C1)–Proficient (C2) ESL video lesson plan is built around the thought-provoking video The Only Way to Date Successfully and explores the theme of self-love and its importance in romantic relationships. Students develop vocabulary related to relationships, emotional wellbeing and dating while reflecting on how self-esteem shapes our choices in love. Through viewing and discussion, learners analyse key ideas about self-worth, explore quotations about self-love, perform a roleplay about dating advice and read an article titled Why Self-Esteem Shapes Romantic Relationships. The lesson encourages learners to reflect critically on attraction, rejection and emotional independence while developing speaking, listening, reading and writing skills.
