@7wb5 - A lot of that dynamics is what I tried to convey with the concept of the cascade-of-subculture-evolution I talked about in my Stoa2 talk. Media journalists like to highlight the "freaks" or leaders as exemplars of the ideas. Likely because they stand out and also have a narrative to present [that can make the traditionalists/conformists feel good about themselves, because at least they're not "like that"]. In reality, most people/followers in a movement are not like those who get known for it but rather more moderate. I can absolutely guarantee that most EREmites (the very many I have personally met anyway) are not like me.

On the other hand, It's entirely possible that although I have repeatedly attempted to give them a whirl, I simply don't adequately appreciate video games as either art form or entertainment or broader social venue. I really don't like sports or beer either, so color me weird.

Well, I have given it my best attempt---for maybe some 1500-2000hrs total---but to put that in perspective, that's nowhere close to the generation(s) that grew up with it. Despite my best efforts, my skills are between the 1/2 and 2/3 percentile level at best. Good enough to hang and not be perceived as a complete fool/fogy by the youngest generations, but I'm definitely not going to be doing any innovation in this field. And because of my relative lack of knowledge, I can't offer much in terms of inspiration either. Basically, I only know the equivalent of an associates degree, but at least I know that now too.

This thread [of buying happiness or pursuing different kinds of it] is probably like if you were to give me dating advice or @Ego were to give me hustling or traveling advice, we all be like, yeah already been there, done that, not really interested anymore, so just not going to unless/before having to. And until then rationalize why we won't.
