Hgtv’s Ben And Erin Napier Give Dating Advice After Nearly 20 Years Of Marriage

HGTV fan-favorites Ben and Erin Napier opened up about their relationship and gave dating advice to those looking for “The One.”

Ben and Erin Napier Knew Immediately They Were Meant for Each Other

The “Home Town” couple met in college in 2004 when Erin interviewed Ben for the school newspaper.

“I remember seeing Erin the first week of school,” Ben previously told People of their first encounter. “She was walking across the student union, and she had a pixie haircut. I didn’t know what a pixie cut was at the time, but I knew I liked it.”

Their relationship progressed quickly, as just six days later, they declared their love for each other.

“Six days later, we decided we would get married, and that was that,” Erin explained in a 2010 blog post.

While speaking to Fox News ahead of their season 10 premiere, Erin said, “I feel really lucky that we both knew.”

Nearly 20 years after tying the knot, Ben added, “The only challenge is trying to surprise each other with something.”

“It’s real hard,” Erin agreed in their joint Fox News interview. “We’re together 24/7 so we have, I will say, pretty much perfect communication with each other. We know everything. We have no secrets. âCause you canât have a secret when you are with someone constantly.”

Ben and Erin Napier Give Dating Advice

The pair, who share daughters Helen and Mae, offered their best advice to those looking for love.

“I feel like people don’t take enough risks anymore as far as just saying it. Saying what you really think,” Erin told Fox News. “What if you’re like just lukewarm dating someone forever and they have no intention of being with you forever? What are we doing? What is the point? What are we doing?”

She continued, “I think it’s a lot better to say the truth even if it gets you like⦔ before Ben interjected, “⦠Even if it breaks your heart.”

Both Ben and Erin agreed that the most efficient way to get to know someone is to be honest about what you’re looking for.

“I know young people in their 20s who are trying to date. And they’re like, ‘I don’t know if he likes me. I just can’t tell,'” Erin added. “And I’m like, just say, âWhat do you think about me? Do you like me? Do you want to marry me?'”

“‘Where do you see this going?'” Ben added.
