Lilies Blooming In 100 Days (2023) By Muromaki Manga Review
Originally published in Japan under the title “100-nichigo ni Saku Yuri,” the full color volume presents one hundred short scenarios, each marking a different “day” and a distinct romantic or intimate encounter between women. Rather than unfolding as a single continuous narrative, the book functions as an anthology of moments, essentially a curated gallery of yuri snapshots.

The central idea is simple yet effective. Each day introduces a new pairing or situation, occasionally returning to familiar archetypes such as high school classmates, while at other times shifting toward adult relationships or more playful age gap dynamics. As a result, the structure encourages variety, even if it limits narrative continuity.
What distinguishes the work most clearly is its visual presentation. Muromaki’s linework is clean and expressive, and the full color format enhances the immediacy of each vignette. Faces are particularly well rendered, with subtle shifts in expression conveying hesitation, longing, embarrassment, or desire. There is a noticeable reliance on the classic red, flustered expression, yet this repetition ultimately works in effectively communicating the intended emotion rather than detracting from the experience.
The narrative style varies throughout. Several entries consist of a single page featuring one image and one brief story, while others expand into multiple panels on the same page. At the same time, the book opens and closes with a more developed short story spanning several pages, centered on a student’s love for her teacher. In many ways, this dynamic becomes the thematic backbone of the collection, as the school setting appears most frequently among the scenarios.
The focus clearly leans toward sensuality and titillation, although there is no nudity and the overall tone remains restrained and suggestive rather than explicit. Moments of kissing and implied groping appear, yet they are handled in a soft, almost teasing manner. Considering the quality of the artwork and the effectiveness of the implied eroticism, this approach feels intentional rather than limiting.
However, the abundance of one page stories, despite the brief introductions that accompany them, does not allow for substantial emotional investment in the characters or their circumstances. Consequently, the volume often resembles an artbook more than a traditionally readable manga. A smaller number of longer stories might have created stronger emotional resonance while allowing the artwork to shine even further.
Nevertheless, fans of yuri themes, particularly those who appreciate an album style presentation, will likely find much to enjoy here. The quality of the illustrations is undeniably high, and the use of color makes “Lilies Blooming in 100 Days” visually striking and memorable, even if its narrative ambitions remain modest.
