Members Of Bad Suns, Fleshwater, And Ethel Cain Form New Band Bedelia
Bedelia — a new group comprising Fleshwater vocalist Marisa Shirar, Bad Suns’ Miles Morris, and Ethel Cain guitarist Dakota Floeter — have released their debut single, “Tightrope.” The band formed after Morris connected with Shirar, his childhood friend, during a time when he was writing with no home in mind. With Floeter, it became a place to unload the change and grief they were carrying.
“Lyrically, this song is about reflecting on your own shortcomings within a relationship,” Morris shares. “It’s about not choosing love. When we’re young and our main example of love is inextricably linked to pain, it can result in us subconsciously, or consciously, sabotaging our adult relationships. Sometimes the fear is not that it won’t work out, but that somehow it will.

“I love the choice we made to withhold chorus lyrics until the last round,” he continues. “Marisa referenced Garbage’s ‘When I Grow Up,’ and we thought that was such a cool way to build excitement as the song progressed. This was the first song we wrote and recorded, as well as the first time we worked with Dakota for this project. I was blown away by how dialed in his tone was and how much his parts elevated the song.”
The song is accompanied by a hazy video directed by Isaac Westberg and Jack Duffy (Turnstile, Mannequin Pussy), featuring the band performing in an old house juxtaposed with nature visuals.
