In July 2026, MyHeritage published 152 million historical records across 23 new and updated collections from France, the United States, Italy, Austria, Canada, Spain, and more. The collections include church and civil birth, marriage and death records, parish registers, obituaries, tax registrations, military headstone applications, and newspaper pages. Among the births recorded in the new Pennsylvania Birth Index, 1900–1920 is that of James M. Stewart, born on May 20, 1908, in Indiana, Pennsylvania. Better known as Jimmy Stewart, he became one of Hollywood’s most beloved actors, starring in classics such as Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, The Philadelphia Story, It’s a Wonderful Life, Rear Window, and Vertigo. During World War II, Stewart also served as a pilot, flying combat missions over Europe, and ultimately rose to the rank of brigadier general, making him the highest-ranking actor in American military history.

His birth index entry records his mother’s maiden name as Jackson (Elizabeth Ruth Jackson) and includes certificate number 66603, which can be used to request the original birth certificate from the Pennsylvania State Archives.

This collection is especially valuable for genealogical research because each birth entry includes the mother’s maiden name, a key detail for verifying family relationships and tracing earlier generations.
