Okin Biscuits Factory Attains 90% Resuscitation Stage, 30 -tonne Lpg Tank Installed

The resuscitation of the Okin Biscuits factory in Offa, Offa Local Government Area of Kwara, has reached 90 per cent completion.

A representative overseeing the process, Mr Kunmi Alalade, disclosed this during an interview with LEADERSHIP at the factory site in Ijagbo on Monday.

Our reporter, who was at the site to monitor progress on the factory’s resuscitation, which shut down production about 17 years ago, observed that the moribund factory has made substantial physical and structural progress since the last visit in August 2026.

Alalade, who mentioned the recent installation of a 30-ton Liquefied Petroleum Gas tank to power the factory ovens, said the major target is to put the physical structure and equipment in proper shape for production to commence.

He said the LPG tank installation was a new addition to the factory’s operation to complement the reconnected electricity supply.

Alalade said the resuscitation effort was being spearheaded by the children of the factory’s late founder and chairman, Chief Emmanuel Adesoye, noting that there is currently no management team.

He disclosed that some of the factory’s former skilled workers, such as welders, were engaged and were presently working to put the factory in proper shape.

“When we did the test run, we were on target and on schedule. In fact, we’re ahead of schedule. You can see for yourself that a 30-ton LPG tank has been installed, which means we are making substantial progress.

“Yes, we are currently using some of the old staff because of experience and then institutional memory; we need them to be able to put things together.

“Although we will get new staff subsequently, that’s going to be towards the tail end before we begin with the ultimate production, full production,” he said.

On the issue of registration with relevant government regulatory agencies, Alalade said the factory is up to date with its registration procedures and is ready to commence full operations, adding that all documentation concerning the factory’s operations is intact.

He called on the Kwara State government to provide the necessary support to the factory when it is fully functional, including a low, relatively tax-free regime, to ensure higher productivity and sustainability.

“Well, we can only appeal to the government to give us maybe tax breaks, to give us holidays, you know, regarding levies and what have you.

“Because a lot has gone into this, there will be loans, there will be other financial commitments, you know. So we expect the government to look into our matter holistically and assist us,” he said.

Alalade expressed appreciation to the people of the host communities of Ijagbo and Offa, and, more importantly, to Nigerians, for their concern, love, advice, and encouragement since news of the resuscitation process broke a few months ago.

He assured that the factory would strive to live up to Nigerians’ expectations when fully operational by producing high-quality biscuit brands and varieties.
