Save Lily Case: Kwan’s Mother Speaks Out, Urges Access To Baby Danny, And Promises To Take Responsibility
4th June 2026 – (Hong Kong) The mother of Ms Kwan has spoken publicly following the arrest of her daughter and partner on Tuesday, 2nd June, on suspicion of ill‑treating or neglecting a child under their care. The ‘Save Lily’ pair were released on bail in the early hours of Thursday, 4th June. In an exclusive interview cited by HK01, Ms Ho—Kwan’s mother—described her daughter as fiercely independent, noting she boarded from secondary school, graduated from the University of Hong Kong, and later moved to Sweden.
Ms Ho said she regularly sent traditional remedies to Europe at her daughter’s request to help treat Lily’s psoriasis, paying more than HK$1,000 a month out of her own pocket. She added that her daughter returned to Hong Kong pregnant after a period in the United Kingdom, a timeline that would later involve the home birth of infant son, Danny.
Reflecting on the couple’s decision to deliver at home and their subsequent arrests, Ms Ho struck a stoic tone, saying she would accept whatever comes and stressing her wish to see her newborn grandson as soon as possible. She reiterated that her priority is Danny’s welfare and that, if needed, she would care for him herself.
Now in her seventies, Ms Ho lives alone in a public housing flat in Cheung Sha Wan and relies mainly on social assistance. She recalled decades of hard work across the border and in local restaurants to support the family, and said she was widowed 12 years ago. She described her daughter’s schooling choices as self‑driven and said she rarely intervenes in her adult relationships or beliefs, adding she sometimes offered financial help but was otherwise not involved.
Ms Ho recounted visiting a unit in Sau Mau Ping where the couple had stayed, describing it as old and in poor condition. She said there had been a dispute between Mr Tsang and his brother months earlier, after which the pair moved out. On her daughter’s post‑natal recovery, she said Kwan sourced her own traditional supplements at home.
Authorities said the couple initially resisted providing DNA samples to verify Danny’s parentage for birth registration, prompting a police investigation and the child’s medical check‑up. On Wednesday, 3rd June, officials confirmed the pair had agreed to provide samples and a court directed that Danny be placed in a care facility. By Thursday, 4th June, DNA comparisons indicated the infant is biologically related to the couple. Ms Ho, meanwhile, says she hopes for a swift resolution—and a chance to hold her grandson.
