Why Over-explaining Yourself Never Works. #overexplaining #relationshipadvice #datingadvice

Men, be honest. Have you ever left a conversation feeling like you were on trial instead of solving a problem? Share your experiences in the comments below.

One of the biggest mistakes men make in conflict is over explaining themselves. Men often believe that if they just explain their intentions clearly enough, calmly enough, and logically enough, the conflict will resolve. But in toxic dynamics, the conversation was never about solving the problem in the first place.

In healthy conflict, both people are trying to understand each other and fix the issue. In toxic conflict, one person is trying to gain control of the narrative. So while you are explaining, she is collecting information. She is gathering examples, finding inconsistencies, and slowly shifting the conversation away from the original issue and onto your behavior, your tone, and your character.

Suddenly, you are no longer talking about the problem. You are defending your personality. You are defending your intentions. You are defending whether you are a good partner, a good communicator, or a good person. And now the entire conversation is about you, not the issue that started the conflict.

Over explaining does not work in toxic conflict because the goal is not resolution. The goal is control. The most important skill a man can learn is not how to explain better, but how to recognize whether the conflict is healthy or toxic in the first place.

Healthy conflict looks like accountability, mutual respect, and staying on topic. Toxic conflict looks like blame shifting, character attacks, bringing up the past, and turning the conversation into a courtroom.

Can you recognize the difference?
