Coerced Caregiver - How To Escape When You, Yourself Are Disabled?

Card image cap

I'm sure I'm not the only one who got forced into a caregiver position for a family member. I'm sure I'm not the only one who is the disabled black sheep of the family forced into this role just to keep a roof over their head.

Did anyone in this position make it out? Did you eventually escape even though you can't work?

I can't get any money or work, so I'm stuck here feeling more and more suicidal as the years pass. I lost all sense of self, I have no interest or motivation to do anything beyond simple instant pleasure. I'm disabled and cannot work anyway, but I'm forced to push past my limits and into extreme fatigue and burnout because my family doesn't recognize my disabilities and thinks I'm full of shit & that caretaking isn't "that hard". Every day is melting into the next, identical day. I spend much of my time in bed recovering from the hard caregiving work I'm forced to do despite being technically unable to.

How did you escape? If you escaped, did you manage to live on your own with just SSI? I got denied for SSI (lawyers fighting the appeal right now but it could be 6-12 months before i hear back again) and I don't qualify for SSDI since I've been unable to work since birth.

I just need anything, something to give me hope, I desperately need something to cling onto, some kind of plan. Surely someone managed to escape from coerced caregiving after being approved for ssi, thus giving them some income and small freedom?? right? am I insane to think that's my only chance to get out?. I can't afford to move out when I've never had more than 1k USD at a time. I can't be myself, can't decorate, can't do anything i want to because my schedule is her schedule and I can't leave for extended periods of time because she's a fall risk. My family members don't step up either.
