Letter: Preserve Temporary Protected Status For Haitians And Other Tps Holders In The U.s.

On June 25

of this year, the Supreme Court allowed the Trump administration to terminate Temporary Protected Status for more than 300,000 Haitian nationals – a status that allowed them to legally hold jobs and support their families in the United States. Termination of their TPS status means loss of legal protection and potential deportation to horrendous conditions in Haiti including violent crime, risk of kidnapping, armed gang control, extreme poverty, and political instability.

Haitian TPS holders, and TPS holders from other countries, are vital members of American communities, serving in essential roles in healthcare, construction, food service, elder care, and other important areas of community life. They are our coworkers, neighbors, family members and friends.

The Faith and Conviction Coalition of Fargo-Moorhead-West Fargo calls on North Dakota Sens. Hoeven and Cramer to support Senate Bill 4814 which would extend Temporary Protected Status for Haitians into early 2029. This legislation had bipartisan support in the House of Representatives and passed the House as H.R. 1689 in April 2026.

Moral leadership requires a commitment to basic human rights, the well-being of all people, and decision-making for the greater good. We look forward to our senators exercising this type of leadership through their support of SB 4814.
