Mom Canceling Appointments, Etc.

Card image cap

Hi all. My mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer's a few months ago. She's very much a homebody and will try to avoid going anywhere most of the time if she can help it.

I've reduced my weekly hours from 40 to 32 in order to visit more, keep up with her appointments and go with her to them, keep up with her bills, help her take out the trash. Things like that.

Recently she's started canceling doctor appointments. She usually tells the office she's having car problems (she's not). Sometimes she won't even remember she canceled them.

I've told her I'll go with her to every appointment, and that we'll do it all together, since she expressed she doesn't want to deal with doctors, which I empathize with completely. That seemed to help, but she's since forgetten that conversation.

I've gotten a elder care lawyer to help with poa and the like, but my mom really doesn't see the point in any of that. It's like she's forgotten she has alzheimer's.

I'm thinking I need to push through her objections about getting everything squared away legally and just bring her along and get it done? That way her doctors can only go through me?

Thanks in advance.
