Due to overwhelming interest, Northwestern University Center for Audiology, Speech, Language, and Learning (NUCASLL) is once again offering its Cognitive Fitness Series. The six-part, evidence-based series, ideal for ages 40 and older, will help participants understand how their everyday choices can support their cognitive wellness.

Led by Leigh Cohen, a speech-language pathologist with a master’s degree, and Liz Meyer, a doctor of audiology, both assistant clinical professors in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders at NUCASLL, the series blends the latest research with lively discussion and actionable takeaways that participants can put into practice immediately.

Participants will explore key factors that can influence cognitive health and performance. Covered topics include:

  • Tips for building brain power
  • How healthy sleep and diet habits affect cognition
  • Understanding how the brain helps you hear
  • Maintaining focus in an increasingly digital world
  • Ways to create a brain-boosting environment

As part of the program, participants will also receive a hearing assessment, cognitive screening and balance screening.

The Cognitive Fitness Series will take place over Zoom on Oct. 7, 14 and 21 and on Nov. 4 and 11, from 10 to 11 a.m. Optional hearing, fall risk and cognition screenings will occur on Oct. 28 and 30, from 8:30 a.m. to noon. The series costs $300 per person or $450 per couple (50% discount for NU faculty, staff, affiliates and alums). Space is limited, and advance registration is required. To secure a spot, call 847-491-3165 or email NUCASLL@northwestern.edu.
