Orange County Rescue Mission Partners With Amen Clinics On Brain Health Program

Orange County Rescue Mission is expanding its approach to homelessness recovery with a new brain health initiative developed in partnership with Amen Clinics, introducing residents to practices focused on mental wellness, decision-making and long-term stability.

The organizations recently conducted a 12-session pilot program at Orange County Rescue Mission’s Village of Hope campus in Tustin. The program is structured around four areas — mind, body, nutrition and community — and is designed to give participants practical tools for strengthening emotional regulation, decision-making and overall well-being.

Participants will complete the program on July 28, with psychiatrist and Amen Clinics founder Dr. Daniel Amen visiting the Village of Hope campus for the graduation.

Amen is a psychiatrist, bestselling author and founder of Amen Clinics whose work focuses on brain health and its relationship to behavior and mental performance. His participation in the Orange County Rescue Mission initiative brings that focus into an environment where residents are working to address multiple factors associated with homelessness and build greater long-term stability.

For Orange County Rescue Mission, the pilot adds a brain-health component to a broader model that already incorporates services including counseling, education, job training, shelter, food, health care and independent-living support. The organization said the initiative is intended to address underlying behavioral and mental wellness issues alongside residents’ immediate needs.

Residents participating in the program are expected to discuss how the brain health practices have affected their mindset, behavior and outlook during the July 28 program. Dr. Amen will also meet directly with participants as part of the event.

The pilot reflects a broader effort by Orange County Rescue Mission to combine housing and basic assistance with programs aimed at helping residents move toward self-sufficiency. Founded in 1963, the faith-based nonprofit operates programs serving homeless men, women, veterans and children throughout Orange County.

The July 28 program is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Village of Hope, 1 Hope Drive in Tustin.
