Should I Use Eero 7 Or Fritz!box 7530 Ax With My Ha Green For Disability Setup? Or Something Else?
I've just been sent an eero 7 by Zen for my new 900Mbps FTTP when I had asked for a Fritz!box - do I keep it or send it back and ask for the FRITZ!box despite the FTTP speed I will be getting?
Here is the history/situation: I will preface this by saying I am in the UK, and my 3 bed house is covered in pebbledash and therefore wire mesh, there is no neutral on the lights and this is predominantly for disability stuff (and gaming)...
My daughter is severely physically disabled and has a learning disability- her independence is limited to voice control with Alexa or Siri, one index finger on her ipad/iphone, or driving her powerchair at me with no real accuracy.
Having decided to leap properly into smart home technology now she is back from residential school full time, I have just bought some bits and pieces to add on to what we already have. I'm happy to buy extras if really needed, and I do basic wiring jobs on our house. Realistically if the system goes down whilst I'm out/away the most I can expect a carer to do is turn it off a on again so I need things to keep functioning offline where possible.
Current setup: a combination of Ring cameras & doorbell, Alexa echo dots, Tapo cameras (needed a separate system to keep an eye on carers), Tuya and Nedis smartlife plugs and bulbs, Govee lights (various indoors, and some outdoors as path lighting with a motion sensor). Iphones, ipads & the odd Samsung phone. Gaming pc & laptop. Couple of Roku's. Old school light switches in every room and traditional bulbs in about half the house. No landline phone. TP link wifi extender to work the garden ring cameras. A Netatmo room thermostat that has seen better days, but I like that I can put the controller it in her bedroom as she gets coldest.
Plus an analogue intercom/door opener which we don't use, but with a fail-secure door strike running off a Bell 212 PSU that I need to smart upgrade but don't want to do so using a Ring adapter (I'm thinking maybe Shelly relay).
What I've bought in the last few days but still just playing about with: Home Assistant Green, Bluetooth Proxy for Home Assistant (only bought in case I later found I needed one) ZBT-2, Sonoff SNZB-01P switches, NTAG215 NFC stickers (bought to prank someone tbh but I have loads spare). A cheap domain just to route traffic through. Moes Zigbee roller blind winder.
So its a right old mix of stuff, whilst I'm happy with what I have, I don't want to tie myself down to one company forever (Amazon I'm looking at you!) and will no doubt be expanding my haul in the future. I also want to avoid a Nabu Casa subscription if possible just cos of ongoing cost. I also need technophobe guests to be able to use the lights and have internet access.
The old Vodafone router is going back. I'm wondering whether to keep the Eero 7 and just buy something to go alongside it to handle the local stuff, if thats even an option....
