Alexander Brothers Found Guilty Of Sex Trafficking

The Alexander brothers were convicted Monday in federal court on sex trafficking charges following a five-week trial in which prosecutors alleged they drugged and sexually assaulted numerous women.

A jury found twins Oren and Alon Alexander, 38, and their older brother Tal Alexander, 39, guilty on multiple counts after hearing testimony from 11 women who said they were assaulted by one or more of the brothers.

U.S. District Judge Valerie E. Caproni scheduled sentencing for Aug. 6. The brothers have been jailed since their 2024 arrests and could face decades in prison.

Defense attorney Marc Agnifilo said the convictions will be appealed.

“We believe in our clients’ innocence and we’re not going to stop fighting until we prevail, and we believe that we will one day prevail,” he told the Associated Press.

Federal prosecutors said the verdict validates accounts of women who accused the brothers of exploiting access to luxury travel and nightlife to facilitate assaults.

“The truth is sex trafficking and other federal sex offenses are present in many walks of life, and we have not done enough to root it out,” U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton stated.

Oren and Tal Alexander rose to luxury real estate prominence during their tenure at Douglas Elliman before launching their own brokerage venture — while Alon Alexander operated the family’s private security business.

Numerous accusations

Prosecutors told jurors that more than 60 women have accused one or more of the brothers of rape or sexual assault.

Several reportedly testified they met the men at nightclubs, parties or through dating apps and later accepted invitations to luxury trips — including stays in the Hamptons, travel to Aspen, Colorado and a Caribbean cruise.

According to testimony, some women later believed their drinks had been tampered with and described suddenly losing control of their bodies.

One woman told jurors she met the brothers at a 2012 party at actor Zac Efron’s Manhattan apartment before going to a nightclub later that night. Efron was not accused of any crimes.

She testified that she woke up naked with Alon Alexander standing over her.

“I don’t want to have sex with you,” she testified telling him. “Haha, you already did,” she recalled him replying as he “laughed in her face,” according to the Associated Press.

Defense lawyers argued that the encounters were consensual and suggested the women’s recollections were unreliable or financially motivated.

In addition to sex-trafficking convictions, Alon and Tal Alexander were found guilty of sex trafficking of a minor. Alon and Oren Alexander were convicted of aggravated sexual abuse by force or intoxicant and sexual abuse of a physically incapacitated person. Oren Alexander was also convicted of sexually exploiting a minor after prosecutors presented video they said showed him assaulting a drugged 17-year-old.

A wave of civil lawsuits

The criminal case followed a wave of civil lawsuits filed over the past two years alleging similar misconduct.

Among the most recent suits was one filed last week by Tracy Tutor — a real estate broker and television personality — alleging that Oren Alexander drugged and assaulted her during a New York real estate event, the Associated Press added.

During the trial, prosecutors also sought to rebut claims that money motivated the allegations.

One woman who said she was raped by Alon Alexander in Aspen in 2017, when she was 17, told jurors she came forward despite being the daughter of a billionaire.

“I don’t want their money. I just don’t want them to have it,” she said.

Artist and gallery owner Lindsey Acree testified she was assaulted by Tal Alexander and another man in 2011 at a Hamptons home after drinking a beverage that left her unable to move.

“If there’s a kid with a stick who keeps hitting people, you take their stick away,” she told the jury. “Money is their stick, so you take it away so they can’t hurt people anymore.”

The Associated Press specified that Acree and Tutor chose to be identified in its reporting — as it does not typically do so for alleged victims of sexual assault.

Kate Whiteman, an Australian woman whose sexual assault allegations against the brothers spurred similar claims from others, was found dead near Sydney late last year, Australian authorities said.

A spokesman for the New South Wales coroner confirmed the death, which was first reported by the New York Times in January.
