The top leader of one of the largest nonprofit senior living providers in the country is slated to leave his post at the end of the year.

Acts Retirement-Life Communities CEO Gerald Grant announced on Monday that he is retiring at the end of 2026. He will in the interim maintain his role throughout the remainder of the year and maintain “full responsibility for the organization’s operations and strategic direction,” according to a press release from the operator.

A representative for Acts declined to elaborate on the announcement when reached by Senior Housing News Monday.

Grant has worked with the organization for nearly 40 years. During that time he has held a variety of roles including president, chief operating officer, executive vice president and chief financial officer. Over the course of his career with Acts, the organization has grown to serve nearly 11,000 residents across 28 communities in nine states. Today it’s the third-largest non-profit senior living operator by total unit count, according to the most recent LeadingAge-Ziegler 200 list.

“Serving the Acts organization has been the greatest honor of my career. I am proud of what we have accomplished and confident in Acts’ future,” Grant said in the release.

Acts anticipates the transition between Grant and his successor will take about a year to “support an orderly leadership change and ensure continuity across Acts’ operations, strategy and long-term commitments,” according to the release.

The remainder of the organization’s senior leadership team will remain in place and unchanged.

“Jerry Grant has played a significant role in the development and evolution of Acts,” Susan Allmond, chair of the Acts board of directors, said in the release. “The board appreciates his continued leadership during this transition period and is committed to a thoughtful succession process that positions the organization for continued success.”
