BELLEVUE, Wash. — Senior living owner and operator Aegis Living has announced a scheduled leadership change, with plans for Dirk Burghartz to take over as CEO of the company in July 2027. He will succeed the current CEO and company founder Dwayne Clark, who established the organization in 1997.

Following the transition, Burghartz will continue to serve as the company’s president, occupying a dual role.

Additionally, Derek Doke, chief financial officer, will take on an expanded role as both chief financial officer and chief investment officer.

Burghartz first joined Aegis as president in 2025, following a career in the hospitality sector.

“Dwayne built Aegis into a company that stands alone in our industry,” said Burghartz in a statement. “It is the honor of my career to be entrusted with the next chapter. Our commitment is simple: protect what makes Aegis extraordinary.”

Washington-based Aegis currently operates a portfolio of 37 assisted living and memory care communities across Washington, California and Nevada. The company has additional communities under development.
