SHN: What inspired you to pursue a career in senior living dining, and what continues to motivate your work today?

Sadik : Cooking homemade meals and knowing how food brings people together. Also, seeing the joy on a resident’s face and hearing the different life stories from residents. It motivates me to bring their favorite meals to the table.

SHN: What are the top three trends shaping the future of dining in senior living right now?

Sadik: Local sourcing, bistro setting, and international food. In this new generation, we see people leaving their comfort zone when it comes to food.

SHN: What is the biggest barrier to innovation in senior living dining today, and how can organizations effectively overcome it?

Sadik: The biggest barrier to innovation in senior living dining is the conflict between waste and food. This can be overcome by eliminating manual waste and budget discrepancies 

SHN: In one word, how would you describe the future of dining in senior living?

Sadik: Innovation.

SHN: How do you see technology transforming dining operations and the resident experience in the next few years?

Sadik: It will provide access to new resources, recipes, food and improve the management of food waste.

SHN: Reflecting on your career, if you could give yourself advice on your first day in senior living dining, what would it be and why?

Sadik: Listen. You will build trust with residents and their families. Relax and you will show them your love of cooking

SHN: What qualities or leadership traits do you think DISHED Senior Living Dining Innovation Award winners must embody?

Sadik: We need to learn how to adapt to change, and be willing to adapt to the times.
