Matt Meyers, Senior Managing Director of Analytics at Arrow Senior Living, has been named to the Future Leaders Class of 2026 by Senior Housing News.

To become a Future Leader, an individual is nominated by their peers. The candidate must be a high-performing employee who is 40 years of age or younger, a passionate worker who knows how to put vision into action, and an advocate for older adults and the committed professionals who ensure their well-being.

Meyers sat down with Senior Housing News to share what drew him to the senior living industry, the biggest leadership lessons he has learned, his thoughts on the future of senior living, and much more. SHN: What drew you to the senior housing & senior living industry?

Meyers: The sense of community and feeling of doing important work. I was in healthcare, but I appreciated that senior living was really focused on true quality of life.

SHN: How would you describe your leadership style, and how has it changed over time?

Meyers: I’m at my best and happiest when coaching and mentoring. Give the team ownership and let them run with projects.

Letting go of ownership is hard and the area I have had to evolve the most. I have found you can’t wait until you are sure someone is ready to run with something. That only holds back their development.

SHN: What is the biggest leadership lesson you’ve learned while serving the senior housing & senior living industry?

Meyers: From residents, I have always taken away that you really are only as old as you think you are. It’s inspiring to see the residents who really thrive in the face of chronic challenges and lead a vibrant life. I try to keep myself and my team focused on the opportunities to be excited about and not get bogged down by the challenges.

SHN: In one word, how would you describe the senior housing & senior living industry and why?

Meyers: Personal.

Everything we do is about meeting residents and families where they are at individually and providing for their unique needs.

SHN: What do you see as the biggest opportunities and challenges currently facing the senior housing & senior living industry?

Meyers: The biggest opportunity is turning information into better decisions that improve resident’s outcomes and quality of life.

As an industry, we probably capture the best whole person data between wellness, culinary, resident services, and sensors. Integrating all this information from our various systems, and then turning it into real decisions and interventions can make a big impact. This matters internally, but also externally through value-based care programs and how senior living integrates with the health system more broadly.

Our biggest challenge is that we do not have a corresponding wave of caregivers to match the senior demand wave. How we retain our front line teams, make their jobs easier, and attract new employees to the industry will be critical to keeping up with demand.

SHN: If you had a crystal ball, what do you think will impact the senior housing & senior living industry over the next 5-10 years?

Meyers: Like most industries, artificial intelligence (AI) will have a major impact. The potential to unlock unstructured data living in note and text fields is really exciting because it makes capturing nuance and context possible at scale. I also think it opens the door to unlocking the power of data for an audience that might not respond enthusiastically to numbers and charts.

SHN: In your opinion, what qualities must all Future Leaders possess?

Meyers: Future Leaders need curiosity, humility and the courage to act. They should be willing to question how things have always been done, listen closely to the people doing the work and take responsibility for moving good ideas forward.

Just as importantly, they need to develop others. Leadership is not only about what you accomplish personally, but also about creating opportunities for the people around you to grow and succeed.
