Brazos Presbyterian Homes, PRDG announce expansion in Texas

Nonprofit senior living provider Brazos Presbyterian Homes and PRDG Architecture have announced an expansion plan for The Hallmark life plan community in Houston that will add a 21-story high-rise independent living segment to the existing property known as the Uptown Oaks, according to a news release.

Construction is expected to start in 2027 and residents can move in starting in 2030, the release states. The new residential addition will create a “wellness destination” for residents with a yoga studio and massage area, upscale dining venues with city views and an art and hobby studio, cafe, movie theater and pool area.

The new independent living residences will range between 1,250 square-feet to 3,000 square-feet and include a design style honoring the legacy of the existing Hallmark community.

“For more than 50 years, The Hallmark has been a leader in senior living, earning a lasting reputation in the Houston area,” said Deidre Kinsey, CEO of Brazos Presbyterian Homes. “This expansion is a natural part of our evolution, allowing us to build on that legacy. It’s shaping the next chapter of our community, giving us opportunities to adapt, grow and create an environment where older adults can thrive for generations to come.”

Construction continues on Cedarhurst cottages project

Cedarhurst Senior Living is moving forward with construction of cottage homes at the Cedarhurst Cottages of Frankfurt property in Frankfort, Illinois, according to a news release.

The cottages will be completed in February, the release states, and add 32 cottages to the neighborhood that also includes a community clubhouse and outdoor amenities that will be completed in May of this year.

As part of the project, the cottages include open floor plans, full kitchens, private patios, in-unit laundry and attached one-car garages. The clubhouse will serve as a gathering place for residents and fit alongside outdoor amenities including a putting green, pickleball court and recreation areas.

“The opening of our first cottages in February is an exciting milestone for Cedarhurst of Frankfort,” said Almir Sajtovic, President of Cedarhurst Senior Living. “These modern residences reflect our commitment to creating comfortable, well-designed options for older adults who value independence, simplicity, and flexibility. As we complete the full cottage campus this spring, we look forward to welcoming residents into a neighborhood that offers privacy, convenience, and the freedom to enjoy life on their own terms.”

Covenant Living celebrates completion of redevelopment plan

Covenant Living of Northbrook, a senior living community in Northbrook, Illinois, recently completed a $66.5 million redevelopment plan to meet current demand, according to a news release.

The two-year redevelopment project added three new, three-story carriage homes that brought an additional 36 apartment homes to the community. The homes feature private garages and large patio or balcony spaces in one -and-two bedroom configurations.

The community’s town center was also renovated, having been expanded by 9,000 square-feet with an added bistro and formal dining area with indoor and outdoor seating, the release states.

Habitat Health, Kaiser Permanente open PACE Center

Habitat Health in partnership with Kaiser Permanente recently opened a new PACE Center in south Los Angeles to serve older adults 55 and older, according to a news release.

The program offers primary and specialty care, transportation, in-home support, meals, prescription and social activities at the new PACE center.

“Bringing this center to Compton is about expanding care options for aging adults, including care beyond the four walls of the clinic,” said Dr. Bechara Choucair, Chief Health Officer at Kaiser Permanente and a Habitat Health board member. “Our partnership with Habitat Health enables Kaiser Permanente to deliver integrated care to more adults 55 and older in South Los Angeles—so they can better manage chronic conditions, avoid unnecessary hospital visits, and continue living in the communities they call home.”

The PACE model has been shown to improve the lives of older adults through fewer hospitalizations, improved mental health and a higher quality of life for older adults and their caregivers, while also reducing racial and economic status health gaps in receiving adequate health services.

“Opening our center in Compton helps close a real gap in access to care for older adults across South Los Angeles.” said Matthew Bennett, CEO of Habitat Health. “Our goal is simple: to make care easier to reach, more personal, and truly centered on helping older adults stay independent and engaged in the communities they call home.”
