Brightview Senior Living breaks ground on latest community

Brightview Senior Living and Notre Dame of Maryland University announced the start of demolition and groundbreaking for a new senior living community that will be built on the NDMU campus, according to a news release.

The project, known as Brightview Homeland, will be the first senior living community to start construction on a college campus in Maryland, the release states. The recent groundbreaking ceremony marks the first phase of construction that will later bring higher education and senior living closer together in a shared environment.

The new community will span 3.7-acres and replace the former Knights of Columbus property. The community will include a mix of 170 independent living, assisted living and memory care units, with the end goal of integrating seamlessly with the nearby university campus and surrounding Homeland neighborhood, the release said.

Brightview Homeland will focus on intergenerational connections, bringing university life and community life closer together, participating in shared events, mentorship and service opportunities. The community will pair well with the university’s existing Renaissance Institute that is designed for older adults 50 and up to seek college programming.

Demolition is underway, with full construction scheduled for later this year. The project will add landscaped outdoor areas, better pedestrian connections and accessible spaces that support wellness and social gathering.

Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina announces latest renovation effort

Presbyterian Communities of South Carolina held a groundbreaking ceremony for a large expansion and renovation project at The Foothills Retirement Community, representing a $86 million investment to expand living options on campus, according to a news release.

The renovation was designed by RDG Planning & Design and will expand independent living, enhance community spaces and add new memory care residences to better serve residents.

The largest part of the project, The Terraces, will add 119 independent living residences in four buildings totaling more than 303,000 square-feet. Three of the buildings include 102 units and will be grouped around a new pond with a nearby clubhouse. The fourth building includes 17 units and will connect to the existing main campus.

The residences will include one- and two-bedroom layouts, many with dens, designed to fit the campus and surrounding site. The new, single-story memory care building will include 24 residences arranged around an enclosed courtyard. The project is designed to support safety and comfort while providing access to the outdoors, and it expands the campus’s assisted living options while keeping a residential scale.

Renovations will improve over 95,000 square-feet of the community, spanning dining rooms, resident common spaces, fitness and wellness areas, administrative offices and shared corridors. A new 4,300 square-foot addition will add a multipurpose cultural center with seating for more than 150 people, along with a new bistro and a kitchen to support it.

Construction is expected to last 28 months.
