United Church Homes to undertake expansion project

United Church Homes recently announced that its Laurel’s Edge affordable senior housing community in Kennesaw, Georgia received support to expand resident safety and accessibility amenities at the property, according to a news release.

Funding was given by the Cobb EMC Foundation to expand the walking path at the community, along with widening an existing sidewalk that posed safety and accessibility challenges for residents using walkers or wheelchairs, the news release states.

Currently the path is too narrow for safe passing or turning, which can prevent residents from comfortably navigating and enjoying the outdoor space simultaneously. United Church Homes will seek additional grant funding to complete other outdoor enhancements at the community, including patio improvements and gathering spaces.

Future plans include adding new concrete pads to support outdoor activities and create a seating area adjacent to the horseshoe pit and improved accessible entry to a covered patio area.

The project will include grading, removal of soil and installation of 4-inch broom-finish concrete to expand the existing path and improve accessibility throughout the property, according to the news release.
