Ct Business Owner Charged With Failing To Have Workers’ Compensation Insurance When Employee Injured

A Connecticut business owner has been charged after investigators alleged that he did not have a valid workers’ compensation insurance policy when one of his employees was injured.

Dave Benbow, 54, of Bridgeport faces one count of noncompliance with insurance requirements, according to the state Division of Criminal Justice.

Benbow turned himself in on Aug. 21 at the Rocky Hill Police Department where he was charged by inspectors from the Workers’ Compensation Fraud Control Unit in the Office of the Chief State’s Attorney. He was released on a $5,000 non-surety bond and is scheduled to appear in Milford Superior Court on Monday.

DCJ officials identified Benbow as the owner of All-Pro Abatement LLC, a Bridgeport-based hazard removal company. Authorities allege that Benbow did not have the required workers’ compensation insurance coverage when one of his employees was injured in a workplace accident in West Haven.

According to the DCJ, the felony charge Benbow faces is punishable by one to five years in prison and a fine up to $5,000.
