Fema Launches Online Flood Insurance Purchase Tool
FEMA has launched a new online tool allowing residents to obtain quotes and purchase flood insurance directly through the National Flood Insurance Program.
The NFIP provides flood insurance in nearly 22,700 participating communities nationwide. FEMA said the new self-service option is intended to make coverage easier to obtain by allowing property owners to complete the process online.
"I've seen firsthand how floodwaters devastate American communities," FEMA Administrator Cameron Hamilton said. "We are making it easier for people to reduce their financial risk and protect what they've spent their lives building. With this new digital tool, you can get a quote and buy a flood insurance policy in a matter of minutes."
To receive a quote, property owners can visit floodsmart.gov and provide basic information about their building. They may then purchase a policy online or share the quote with an insurance agent.
Those who prefer to work with an agent can use the website to find contact information for licensed insurance agents in their state.
FEMA said the NFIP provides about $10.3 billion in coverage to roughly 41,000 policyholders in Pennsylvania.
The agency said the new digital option is part of an effort to reduce barriers to purchasing flood insurance and follows the broader insurance industry's shift toward online services.
