MILTON, Fla. (WKRG) — More Milton residents are eligible to take advantage of the flood insurance discount, according to City of Milton officials.

Why wasn't Gene Hackman featured in the in memoriam?

According to a news release, the city has been working to reduce flood risk by planning, educating the public, floodplain management and mitigation programs.

That work has paid off as the city's Community Rating System under the National Flood Insurance Program has been updated to a CRS Class 6 rating. That rating qualifies residents for a 20% discount on federally backed flood insurance premiums.

The discount now applies to policyholders inside and outside the Special Flood Hazard Area, meaning more Milton residents can benefit.

"We've been working directly with Karen Thornhill and the Santa Rosa County Flood Mitigation

Task Force to meet the outreach and program requirements for the Community Rating System,"

said Assistant Planner and Mitigation Specialist Ethan Brosnaham. "These efforts help

strengthen our community's flood preparedness while also saving Milton residents money on

their flood insurance."

The city is not stopping there and will continue to work to "pursue a higher CRS classification," which could garner residents even more savings.

To find out how these savings apply to a specific policy, residents should contact their flood insurance provider or insurance agent.
