Lee Introduces Legislation To Lower The Cost Of Car Insurance
The following information was released by the office of Nevada Rep. Susie Lee :
Today, Congresswoman Susie Lee (NV-03)announced the introduction of her Lowering Costs and Auto Rates for Insurance Act (Lowering CAR Insurance Act). In response to spiking car insurance costs in Nevada, this common-sense legislation would require the Federal Insurance Office (FIO) to submit an annual report to Congress with legislative recommendations to lower the cost of car insurance.
"Owning a car in southern Nevada is simply too expensive. On top of skyrocketing gas prices and repair costs due to Trump's illegal war in Iran and reckless tariffs, Nevadans have the highest full car insurance rates in the country," said Congresswoman Susie Lee. "This commonsense legislation will help us find solutions to lower car insurance costs and put more money back in southern Nevadans' pockets."
Recently, Congresswoman Leehosted a conversation withthe Nevada Division of Insurance, Nevada Property and Casualty insurance brokers, and industry professionals on the challenges facing the insurance market and the impact on Nevada consumers.
Nevada has the highest average car insurance rates in the country, where drivers pay about$355 a month on average, roughly61% higher than the national average. More than600,000 Nevadans will see their auto insurance go up this year, with major insurers such as Allstate, State Farm and Geico all raising rates. Higher vehicle prices and increased repair costs due to tariffs, rising vehicle thefts, auto insurance fraud cases, and poor driving habits arekey drivers.
To help reduce car crashes and fatalities, Congresswoman Lee has secured over $7 million in traffic safety funding for southern Nevada. This year, she is requesting $7.5 million in additional funding to help keep southern Nevada drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians safe. Congresswoman Lee has also opposed the Trump Administration's blanket tariffs, which are driving up the cost of new vehicles and the parts needed to fix vehicles after an accident, contributing to higher insurance prices. She also supportslegislation to make it cheaper to repair a vehicle andlegislation to reduce theft of vehicle parts that are commonly targeted by thieves.
