COLUMBUS — Hundreds of regulators, industry leaders, consumer advocates, policymakers, and other stakeholders from across the country came together in Columbus Aug. 11–14 for the National Association of Insurance Commissioners’ (NAIC) 2026 Summer National Meeting. The gathering provided an important opportunity to share perspectives, strengthen partnerships, and advance work on issues shaping insurance regulation and the marketplace in each state nationwide.

Governor DeWine and I welcomed and addressed participants, highlighting the significance of bringing the NAIC meeting to Ohio, the state’s leadership in insurance and focus on insurance workforce development, and the important role of the state based regulatory system. Virginia Insurance Commissioner and NAIC President Scott A. White delivered the meeting’s keynote address.

Ohio Department of Insurance staff played a significant role at the meeting collaborating with other NAIC members to address insurance matters affecting consumers, insurers, and the broader insurance community. Topics included insurer financial solvency oversight, insurer market conduct, emerging technologies, health insurance and homeowners insurance affordability and availability, natural catastrophe risk, and fraud prevention. NAIC members also advanced work on insurer risk based capital and reserving and annuity disclosures.

Hosting a national meeting of this size was a tremendous undertaking by the NAIC and Ohio Department of Insurance staff helped make it a success, representing Ohioans with many behind the scenes efforts and active engagement addressing the insurance issues at hand.

It was a productive and successful NAIC Summer National meeting, showcasing the strength of our state based system of insurance regulation and the NAIC members’ drive to be difference makers that protect consumers, foster innovation, and support a marketplace that serves communities in Ohio and every state across the country.
