[ohio] I Am My Mother's Poa. She's In A Facility. Keep Paying Past Unpaid Transport Bills?
Location: Ohio
The bills were not covered by Medicaid, as she did not meet the eligibility requirements at that time due to liquid assets. I was required to spend down most everything to <$2000 when she was admitted to a memory facility, so anything after that was covered. The lawyer filed the ACT 52 UPME paperwork, but left out 2 transport bills, there is a total of 4 that should have been submitted. This paperwork won't go into effect until November. I've been paying, with my mom's money, the $20/month minimum to keep them out of collections. My mom is allowed $75/month from her SS check, so I do have to dip into her checking every month, for the extra $25.
Should I even care to pay them anymore and ask the lawyer to renege the ACT 52 paperwork that's already been accepted by Medicaid? After reading many forums, the general consensus with a situation like this is to pay for things she needs with the money instead. Without giving actual legal advice, the paralegal for the lawyer I'm dealing with also, in a round about way, suggested the same thing by saying she probably doesn't need to worry about a credit score or getting a loan. I would agree on those points.
