A Contractor Agreed To A General Price In Email At A Super Good Rate, Then The Final Bill Was More Than Double.

A contractor quoted me $11,000 to renovate my master closet and also to redo my fire place facade.

I sent a follow up email stating I’d prefer to do the projects separate, and I was told in an email (not an official invoice):

“Closet remodel is priced at $8,300 and labor for fireplace project (including construction materials and excluding stones for fireplace) is priced at $2,600.”

I provided the stones and was expecting a $2,600 invoice but the invoice was for nearly $5,600.

Do I have any legal standing to only pay the $2,600? This price was the only reason I chose this contractor but it’s WELL below the market rate of $6-10k that most other places quoted.

NOTE: there was no mention of any other price after the $2,600 quote u til the final bill showed up. I’m assuming they were giving me a deal since they were doing multiple projects but since they haven’t remodeled the closet I’m guessing they’re trying to get their profit margin recouped.

Thanks in advance!
