A Sign To Upset Our Home Builder

Location: Idaho

Question: Can I legally put a sign up on our home that says “We Regret Buying Our (homebuilder’s business name) Home.” He is trying to sell three homes behind ours and the only way to reach the homes is down our shared driveway. He will be having open houses soon. We have no HOA or anything. We’re in city limits.

Long story short, my wife and I bought our first home a year ago. The previous homeowner (a homebuilder) fixed it up and sold it to us. But before he sold it to us, he chopped up the property to create 3 more lots to build homes on behind us. He told us & our realtor, to our face, that the home going up against our property would be small and he would preserve our privacy with “a couple frosted glass windows” facing us. The home went up with nine windows facing us and it wasn’t a small house - its almost a 3-story home with like 6 bedrooms an RV garage and the roof literally goes over our fence it’s so close. I called him out on this and he ignored me. His framing crew also left 24 nails and screws, along with scrapwood, in our fenced in yard. Which I was super upset about, because we have a dog. We’re not on good terms with him, Obviously.

We also just found out he owns the home next door and the 1 acre lot has been zoned for TWELVE small homes that will begin construction in fall. These are obviously going to be right up against our fence, like the home behind us. Again, he never told us ANY of this.

This man blatantly lied to our faces on purpose. Our realtor agrees. Our realtor actually looked for the permits on the planned construction behind our home before we bought ours. It wasn’t submitted until days after our home closed.

Is this petty? Yes. But he absolutely deserves it and if I can inconvenience him in any way I’m going to do it.

Is it legal to put this sign up? Can he sue me with success? It’s a fact that we purchased the home from him, so I don’t think it should be a problem stating we regret the purchase if the sign is on our property. But you tell me!
