A Third-party Is Putting A Lien On My Home In Texas - What Can I Do?
Location: Texas.
I recently had my roof replaced and received a notice from one of the metal suppliers the roofing company used that they have an unpaid balance and are putting a lien on my home to collect.
How does this work? I paid the roofing company in full (have receipts etc) but it appears they did not pay their metal supplier. How is this my problem to sort out/fix? Wouldn't the metal supplier be taking legal action against the roofing company? I have no agreement between ME and this supplier. Sure I assumed the roofing company is purchasing materials somewhere - but this would be like if Home Depot came after me personally because my plumber didn't pay his Home Depot credit card!?
Of course, the roofing company is closed through New Years and I'm hoping its a simple oversight - but mainly asking in principle - how can a company you have nothing to do with put a lien on your house?
I'm short on time, this lien will be filed on January 7th. Should I pay off the amount and then personally try to collect from the roofer, or just let the lien be placed and then sort this out allowing the lien to exist in the meantime?
