Hello all,

Location: Northern Kentucky/Boone County

My family recently had a pretty devastating blow. We purchased our first home a few months ago, we closed September 2025, In what we thought was a cute vary quiet community. Our neighbor that owns an end unit and shares a wall with us set fire to his home on purpose. My fiancé was asleep with our two year old and I 8 months pregnant was dosing off in our bedroom. I began smelling the fire and jumped up searching around our home when fire and police began evacuating. He is charged with first degree arson, he was under the influence of meth during the incident. His parents are the property owners and were letting him reside there. We had had issues with noise and some sketchy behavior prior and have documented 911 calls. There were also several neighbors that informed us that he’s been a problem in history as well.

Unfortunately when he set the fire the damage to the shared attic from water used to put it out severely damaged our home in several places. This happened 2/8/2026. We immediately contacted insurance and got the ball rolling. We are still out of our home and at a stand still HOA has yet to fix the damage to the attic and we cannot move forward with repairs until this is completed.

Now the owners of his unit are selling the property as is and I’m just not sure where to go from here. I feel as though we are taking the brunt of his situation and he is baring little to no consequences for the whole situation. Now on 4/20/2026 we(my fiancé my two year old and my 1 month old) are still displaced due to what he did. And they’re getting to walk away? We weren’t even interviewed by police the night this happened and we could have easily been injured or worse.

Sorry for being so confusing just vary upset and don’t exactly know what to do.
