Advise On Pursuing Legal Action On A Mechanics.

Location: North Carolina

I’ve had multiple problems with this shop. After a wheel bearing replacement, a caliper pin was left uninstalled. Despite asking several times for them to inspect the caliper due to continued grinding, I was repeatedly told other things could be causing the issue. I eventually replaced the caliper myself, which resolved the problem. The only compensation I received was a complimentary oil change.

I used that oil change on July 30, 2026, because I didn’t have time to do my own before a big trip. Most recently, I discovered that the oil pan threads were damaged and the drain plug would no longer thread in.

I normally perform my own oil changes and always hand-thread the drain plug before torquing it. I also have photos documenting the damage, including a red mark on the plug and oil pan that appears to have been made by the shop.

I’ve emailed management and will go in person when I can when they're open but I am trying to get this resolved appropriately, but given the history of issues, I’m concerned about how this will be handled.

What steps would you recommend taking to hold the shop accountable if they refuse to resolve the issue? Would pursuing legal action be reasonable in this situation? I have never done this before and wouldn't know where to start.

I have receipts of the wheel bearing and the caliper I bought and all photos regarding that. I also have photos of the drain plug and pan but I unfortunately threw away my receipt of the oil change (I will see if I can get a receipt of it first before confronting about issues).

Thanks
