Boss Is Withholding Payroll Taxes But Not Paying The Irs Or Government
Location: Missouri
I work as a mechanic in a small Missouri town. Mom and pops type business, small family ran operation with only a few outside people helping around the business. I recently discovered that they're withholding taxes from our pay, have apparently been for years. Without ever paying the government, at the end of the year or whenever it is due. I would like to know who legally I need to talk to to figure out what's going on.
Update: I spoke with the former employee, who knows at least two other former employees, going to get ahold of them and see if I can establish a pattern of this behavior. I have a feeling that this is a scam that they've been using for years to illegally pad their pocket on the backs of people that worked for them. Former employee #1 said they told him almost the exact same thing about his pay, which is how he ended up with the huge tax bill. He quit paying his taxes assuming they were paying them out of the money they were withholding. He's still fighting with the IRS trying to get it all settled and figured out.
