Can I Move To Another State With My Child If There Is No Formal Custody/child Support Agreement In Place With My Child’s Father?
Location: GA, USA - My ex and I have been separated for awhile, and we share an 8 month old son. We broke up a couple months ago with no formal custody agreement- he does send me money for the baby when I ask, but he doesn’t inquire about our son at all.
We (me and baby) have been staying with my mom since my ex and I split up, and that’s across the state from where my ex lives. However, my mom passed away a month ago from cancer, and I’m at a loss to do. I have no family in this town, and I just don’t see what’s keeping me here anymore now that my mom is gone. My sister lives in Virginia and wants me and the baby to come live with her, but I’m just wondering if thats legally something I’d be able to do, seeing as we’d be leaving the state and we don’t have a formal custody/child support arrangement in place.
I just don’t see the point in being in this state anymore, and seeing as my son’s father doesn’t even care to ask for updates on him, what’s really keeping us here? I want to be with family, and my sister is now all the family I have left (aside from my son of course.)
