Can Someone Sell Land I Own Out From Underneath Me?
Location: Ohio, USA
A realtor called me and left a message saying that someone recently called her and asked her to list some land I own. She said that something felt off about the conversation, so she looked up the property on the tax assessor's website, found my name as the owner, and then found my phone number online. Is it possible for someone to scam a buyer into believing they are buying this land and for that to somehow cause me issues or the possible loss of the property? I emailed the realtor but haven't heard back yet duev to the holiday weekend. I also contacted the sheriff, and he instructed me to get in touch with the recorders office so they can set up an alert in case someone tries to list it. Is there anything else I need to do in this situation? I'm going to try and get the contract information off the person who contacted the realtor of I can. The sheriff also said that I can get a police (sherrif's?) report on the matter so that it is documented.
